Driveway Gate Opener Repair: What Homeowners Should Check First
Before you call anyone, there are three quick checks that fix a surprising number of driveway gate opener problems.
Check the remote battery
Sounds obvious. It fixes more calls than anything else. Swap the coin cell in the remote before you do anything else.
Check the safety sensors
Find the small photo-eye boxes on either side of the driveway. Wipe the lenses. Make sure they're pointed at each other. If either one has a red light, the beam is broken.
Check for a manual release
Most openers have a key or lever that disconnects the gate from the motor. Disconnect it and try to move the gate by hand. If it moves freely, the problem is electronic. If it fights you, the gate hardware needs attention.
Still stuck? Call a local pro.
If none of those solve it, the next step is a diagnostic on the opener, board, and wiring. That's when it's time to get a Collin County gate repair pro out.
